Another day, another Teams meeting. Stewart, our Corporate Manager, said thank you to everyone as they left the meeting and returned to his work. Stewart’s colleague Mike popped into the office and Stewart said ‘Did you see what Cindy was wearing? She should have kept her camera off.’ Stewart continued to make derogatory comments about Cindy’s appearance using expletive language. Mike listened fidgeting, clearly uncomfortable. Stewart… you didn’t end the call and I just heard everything,’ said a clearly distraught Cindy. The same day, she sent a written complaint to her Unit Head and her HR Business Partner. An investigation followed where several witnesses came forward. Since Stewart clearly hadn’t upheld the company values and disrespected his colleague, he was issued a first written warning and had to undergo mandatory sensitivity training.
